Noble & Exalted – Name Plate

craft, diy, mod-podge, name plate

I began this during the mod-podge frenzy before Christmas. I had finished the board then so when I decided this was where I was headed I jsut had to come up with the design.

I picked some fonts in Adobe Illustrator and printed out her name and the definition the way I wanted them to look. To add them to the piece, I scribbled and the back with a pencil and traced over it front the front so the outline would transfer. After filling that in with paint, I used some of the rub-ons you can get in the scrapbooking section for the imagery along the edges.

Wall plate - Alicia

And Voila! Once the board is done, you’ve got most of the work completed.

Painting with Your Friends

night out, paint, Paint 'N Sip

Monday night I met a few friends for dinner, then we headed over to a new shop in Virginia Beach called Paint ‘n Sip, which is essentially an art class that shows you step-by-step how to paint a picture that you get to take home. I think I was the only one there who had ever attempted painting before, so we were looking forward to an entertaining evening.

We had a lot of fun! The instructions were easy to follow and it was great not having to clean up afterwards. ;-)

Here we are with our paintings:

(A couple of those were cell phone pics, so they are not the best quality. The others I stole from Alicia.) You can see in the first picture the original that we were attempting to recreate hanging on the wall.

Here’s a final shot of mine:

So, if you are in the Hampton Roads area, this is a fun night out with friends!

Anyone else out there ever done anything like this?

As Pink as a Rose

craft, diy, roses, tshirt

So this was an interesting experience. I had this great idea of using bleach pens on a tshirt to make some pretty white roses on a tshirt. Had that worked, I probably would have covered the front of the tee in roses, but alas: the bleach pen did not work.

The last time I tried it, the bleach bled much more than I wanted, so I was looking forward to trying again. Which I did. Three times. If you look really close at the first picture, you might be able to see the faint marks the bleach pen made. After the third wash I decided it was time to pull out one of the trusty fabric markers… And here’s what I got:

I based the roses off a design we used on a backdrop for a show at college (when I say we, I mean the theatre department and my dear friend Jen, who ended up cutting out thousands of these roses herself).

Simple and unique tshirt idea.

bag, diy, tote

This is a tote that I’m probably going to make for myself. Or at least something pretty similar. Very simple: I used the same technique with the doilies as I did on these,  drew on the sides (gray and white fabric markers), and sewed on the zipper rose I got at Michael’s.

sadly, the only pic I got with the horizontal stripes. my favorite part

Thrifty gifts!
Heart Argyle Tshirt
Heart Argyle TshirtFor tshirt number one, I used a diamond stencil and my trusty fabric markers. On the shirt pictures below, I wrote out part of the love chapter on red tshirt fabric, cut out my heart and hand-stitched it on the tee. Pretty simple and cute. ;-)
