Colorado, garden of the gods, Photography, travel

My memory of the morning we drove through the Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs is kind of a blur now; I remember the gift shop and driving through the park, and I remember thinking that the history of the park was really interesting, as well as all the names of the rock formations, but now I couldn’t tell you any details. Since that is easy to look up, I will be lazy and let you do that on your own if you are interested. Here are some pictures from the drive.

Garden of the Gods

UntitledThe white rocks were my favorites. (not sure “rocks” is the best term for these, but whatevs. That’s as scientific as my brain will go today.)

Garden of the Gods

I seem to keep mentioning gift shops, but I do think you can tell a lot about the park/historic site you visit by wandering the gift shop. The one we visited here was massive, with a very wide assortment of items. I remember seeing Wonder Woman merchandise, paintings, the normal tourist stuff like postcards…Mom bought a sparkly sand art piece, I think I got a wildflower guide book…All that to reiterate the variety of the merchandise available here. I’m pretty sure we spent almost as much time wandering the shop as it took us to drive through the park.

We only stopped once as we drove through the Garden, so I think I’d like to return and explore a little bit, or at least take more time with some photos. (That’s always harder to do with the entire family there.)

Anyone have some stellar shots of the Garden you wanna share?

Looking Back at Alcatraz

Some of these I’ve already posted on here when I blogged about my SF trip (Linked here) in 2010, others are newly edited. I’m slowly going through my pictures and organizing/tagging them in a more efficient manner, so I’ve decided to edit more of the old pics and share about some of the places in more detail than I have in the past on here.

Enjoy a morning at Alcatraz!

Things I really liked:

- this sounds ridiculous, but I LOVED the gift shop. It was very well done. They’ve got a great marketing/merchandising team.
- that you could go along at your own pace. Helpful for someone like me, who tends to stop and take pictures of everything.
- the information on the audio tour was really interesting. I did get to the point where I was on information overload, but that was about the time I had planned to leave.

Thoughts on Alcatraz

I’m not sure I would just go again for the fun of it. I’d probably want to get more merchandise at some point though. I’d go again with a friend who hadn’t been. As much as I liked it, and I did, it’s not on my list of things to do next time I visit San Francisco.

Anyone else been there? What did you like?

::edit:: Freshly Pressed! I’M SO EXCITED! And shocked. And excited. So, welcome! Look around while you’re here and THANKS FOR VISITING!

It may be obvious, but I love driving to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. It’s quite picturesque and as a result I’ve developed a habit of taking a lot of my friends who like photography down there as well. Here are a few more shots…

luray, luray caverns, Photography, travel, virginia

I’m a slacker. In August, I visited Luray Caverns. I’m told I’ve been there before, but I have no memory of it.

Now, I shall always remember my visit and will always be able to look at hundreds of blurry cave pictures. ;-) I really need to start carrying my monopod.

Here’s a snippet of the nicer and mostly in focus shots:

Wishing Well

The last is the maze at Luray Caverns.

Here’s the atmospheric cell phone shot:
luray mazeMuch creepier that way.

There are just a couple more shots on my flickr.
